The Second Transnational Meeting (TPM) of the Erasmus+ Immersive Surgical Education Project took place on October 8-9, 2024, at the Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics of the University of Siena, Italy. The meeting was designed to review progress on the work packages (WPs) and demonstrate various surgical training technologies. Day 1, October 8th, began with a welcome coffee and introduction by G. Salvietti and F. Sanfilippo. This was followed by an overview and status check for the WPs, presented by the respective WP leaders. After a light lunch, there were demos on sensing technologies presented by UNISI, followed by a session on actuation and VR demos from UNISI, UiA, and KTU. The day concluded with a visit to the Siena Dome, followed by a social dinner and wine tasting at Enoteca i Terzi. Day 2, October 9th, started with final remarks and updates on ongoing activities. After a coffee break, attendees visited Prof. Gabriele’s Department. The afternoon session featured a series of demo presentations, including Nico Petroni’s kinematic tracking of surgical gestures, Michele Pompilio’s sensing thimble for palpation, and hands-on demos of sensing technology by Leonardo Franco. Other demos included updates on the Simple Thimble by Bernardo Brogi and Ivan’s demos on the Omega device, the haptic thimble, and the totem. The day ended with additional demos and discussions on future developments. The meeting facilitated a comprehensive review of the project’s progress and provided opportunities for interactive collaboration among participants.
